Red Earth Arts Precinct

The Red Earth Arts Precinct project comprised of a 500 seat performing arts theatre, library, function rooms, gallery and external performing arts spaces. The building is located in the main town centre of Karratha, at the entry of a main arterial traffic and pedestrian route. It provides a gateway ‘beacon’, seen as a prominent element from most locations, both day and at night.

The form of the building had a primary objective to achieve a sense of place and belonging, and to provide a sense of excitement and anticipation of the activities within. The primary external cladding material utilises a prefinished metal sheet with a unique textured finish, a first for an Australian building. Internally the design reflects the dynamic nature of the external form, through its finishes and design form.
